Tornado Tracker
An iOS severe weather alert app concept with multi-source data aggregation, critical alerts, background monitoring, and a radar map view.
Project Overview
Tornado Tracker is a mobile-first product concept focused on delivering fast, reliable severe weather alerts when seconds matter.
It aggregates and cross-checks warnings from multiple providers (like NOAA/NWS and third-party weather APIs) to reduce false positives, then filters alerts by a user-defined radius around their location.
The experience centers on critical, attention-grabbing notifications, an interactive map with warning zones/radar overlays, and an alert history for reviewing recent events.
Key Features
- Multi-source weather data aggregation (NOAA/NWS + third-party providers) with cross-checking to reduce false positives
- Customizable alert radius (default 50 miles, adjustable 5–100 miles)
- Severe weather detection (Tornado, Severe Thunderstorm, Flash Flood, Hurricane/Tropical Storm) including watch/warning types
- Critical alerts that can override Silent / Do Not Disturb (with user permission)
- Real-time background monitoring with adjustable refresh frequency (5–15 minutes)
- Interactive map view with user location, radar overlay, and active warning zones
- Alert history with timestamp/source and read/unread management
